Bon Voyage.   Deputy Mayor Grant Haskin was a special guest at the Blue Peter Party, held at Royal Cape Yacht Club,  to bid Bon Voyage to the fleet participating in the Macs Shipping Southern Star Race which starts from Cape Town on Monday 10th March to Walvis Bay.

The City of Cape Town supports the Youth Development Programme at Royal Cape Yacht Club and their entry Al, will be racing to Walvis Bay.   Co-skippered by Gerry Hegie and Robbie van Rooyen, the average age onboard AL is 22.

Councillor Haskin said :"We have to share our sports among all South Africans, so it is good to hear that the money is being put to good use, and what this also shows is that it is partnership building, a partnership that we can expand on in years to come. Partnerships are key for the city and necessary seeing our vision fullfilled, and one of our visions is to ensure that sailing becomes a mainstream sport, to the extent that it can it has opened up to new people who have not previously been able to experience the joys of sailing. Partnerships must be mutually beneficial, and they must achieve a common vision, and I see that happening here in terms of your relationship with Macs Shipping, with the Walvis Bay Club and the City as well, and I am sure this will expand in the future."
