Our crew is:
Gordon Kling, skipper and owner of the boat, former Executive Editor of the Cape Times and former Cape Editor of the Financial Mail. He is producing the Constantia Nek wine range of Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Shiraz/Viognier blend from his home, Constantia Nek Farm in Cape Town.
Rob Meek of the famous sailing family is a Springbok sailor of long standing and skipper of Windsong, winner of the previous Cape Town to Salvador (Bahia) race. He is a director in the Architecture firm, Gapp, responsible for much of the design of the V&A waterfront in Cape Town, including the new expansion, and marina developments internationally. His wife, Di, is PR manager for SA's entry, Shosholoza, in what is arguably the world's most prestigious yacht race: the Americas Cup.
Howard Richman is the owner of a major Vodacom centre in Cape Town and the yacht's navigator.
Remy Richman, Howard's son, is a diesel apprentice and a reglar crew member of Lobelia.
Adrian Spencer-Jones is completing his B Com and is also a Lobelia regular.
I will provide details of three other crew when I have them.
The boat is Lobelia an IMX 40 built by X Yachts in Denmark and launched in 2002. She has raced extensively overseas including, Fastnet/Cowes and placed second in this weekend's distance race from Table Bay to Club Mykonos and is entering, amongst other major event on the sailing calendar, the South Atlantic race to Salvador (Bahia) in January. |
